At Maryland's most recent Board of Public Works meeting, Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day made his pitch for $26.4 million in funds to support projects across the state, including $1 million for demolition of the former Wicomico County Library and construction of a new ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ performing arts center. The funding was part of $10 million in grants and loans approved and provided to higher education institutions and hospitals by the Seed Community Development Anchor Institution Fund for community development projects.

ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ student Mason Weber lives two lives. He mostly goes about his days as a typical college student, studying for exams and traversing campus grounds. But occasionally, he's transported back to the 1980s, where he's forced to survive a quarantined small, Midwestern town where demogorgons reign supreme. Weber is majoring in business management, but his true passion lies in the art of acting, a passion he was lucky enough to explore in the role of a "featured student" on the set of Netflix's hit streaming series Stranger Things.

Leadership Maryland, the professional development program dedicated to building a better Maryland by harnessing the strength of its local business and community leaders, has announced the election of its officers and board of directors for the coming year. These individuals will each begin a two-year term on Jan. 1. Newly elected officials include Chair Eli Modlin ’19 (LM), chief of staff and vice president of public affairs & strategic initiatives, ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ.

Many adults remember middle or high school music. The band kids and the orchestra kids were in their own little worlds that would almost never meet. But for the past 40 years in ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ, there's been a hidden gem where those walls come down. Delmarva Public Media's Jenny O'Connor speaks with Dr. Jeffrey Schoyen, who has been a professor at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ for 21 years and has become the heart behind the ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ Youth Orchestra.

Stephora Alberi '25 recently was named a finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship, one of the world's oldest and most prestigious international graduate awards. She also is a finalist for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship. Crediting her time at SU for these successes, she remains enrolled while conducting research at the University of Tartu, Estonia, on a David L. Boren Scholarship

ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ recently commemorated 25 years of partnership with the University of Málaga (UMA) during a visit to the institution in southern Spain, led by SU President Carolyn Ringer Lepre. A highlight was a meeting between Lepre and Juan Teodomiro López Navarrete, UMA rector, to review past successes and to explore opportunities to continue to grow the partnership.

The world is struggling now to keep up with Artificial Intelligence. On the Eastern Shore, businesses are also trying to understand this transforming technology. Help in the form of research and innovation is not far away. ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ recently received a $380,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, specifically to spread the gospel of AI to rural areas like the Eastern Shore. Dr. Clifton Griffin, dean of graduate studies and research, sees part of the Rural AI Solutions and Engagement Project as a way to demystify the new technology.

As ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ marks its 100th anniversary, the institution is using the milestone to broaden its presence across the community, launching new partnerships, unveiling commemorative projects, and deepening alumni engagement efforts.
