WMDT: SU Works to Combat Period Poverty with Donations to Area Schools, Community Organizations

SU is doing its part to end period poverty by partnering with organizations to make free feminine hygiene products available to the greater community. SU recently donated products to multiple schools and community organizations following a partnership with publisher Cond Nast in collaboration with U by Kotex and the Alliance for Period Supplies.

SBY Business Journal: Reese Appointed SU AVP of Human Resources

Dr. Sherri Reese, an accomplished human resources executive and industrial and organizational psychologist with more than 15 years of leadership experience in higher education, government and the private sector, has been announced as ��Ƶ’s next associate vice president of human resources. Reese’s appointment follows a national search. She begins July 15.

SBY Business Journal: Delmarva Public Media Wins 13 Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association Awards

Delmarva Public Media (DPM) recently was honored for local news coverage at the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association’s (CAPBA’s) annual convention, winning 13 awards including four for student-produced work in the College Radio division. The seven first-place and six-second place awards were for work done in 2024 for DPM, comprised of three listener-supported public radio stations that operate via a collaboration between ��Ƶ and University of Maryland Eastern Shore: WSCL 89.5 FM, WSDL 90.7 FM and WESM 91.3 FM.

Bulgarian National Radio: SU's Basham Studies Vampires in Bulgarian Folklore on Fulbright

Today, vampires are familiar to many from the way they are recreated in pouplar culture. However, scholars of folklore note that vampires first appeared in the beliefs of the Slavic peoples, long before Western Europe learned about the existence of Count Dracula. Dr. Viktoria Basham, an ethnographer from ��Ƶ, has returned to Bulgaria to study the topic of vampires in Bulgarian folklore. She arrived at the beginning of this year with a scholarship under the Fulbright program to collect and systematize sources on the topic.

Daily Times: SU Participates in ��Ƶ Pride Parade and Festival

Community members recently gathered in downtown ��Ƶ for the city's annual Pride parade and festival, hosted by ��Ƶ PFLAG. ��Ƶ was among local institutions and individuals represented at the event.

WMDT: SU's Peach Named ODK National Leader of the Year

For the past four years, recent ��Ƶ graduate Lian Peach has been a campus leader. Now, the rest of the nation knows that, as well. Peach, of York has been named a National Leader of the Year for Service to Campus and Community by the Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society (ODK). She is a member of the SU OK Circle chapter of ODK.

The MoCo Show: Maryland Amicus Brief Supporting Public Broadcasting Highlights Role of Delmarva Public Media

The Maryland Attorney General joined 21 other states in filing a legal brief supporting NPR and PBS lawsuits challenging a Trump-era executive order to eliminate federal funding, arguing the cuts would harm public safety, education, and access to critical information, particularly in underserved communities. As an example,the brief highlights Delmarva Public Media — operated by ��Ƶ and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore — which covers local news and weather for more than 40,000 weekly listeners in the rural Delmarva region.
