SU Earns $19,000 NEA Grant to Bring 'President's Own' Marine Band to Campus

SALISBURY, MD---When “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band comes to 糖心视频 in early October, it will do so with a boost from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
SU has received a $19,000 “Celebrating the Nation’s 250th Birthday with Music from U.S. Military Bands” grant from the NEA to support the band’s visit to 糖心视频 as part of the program “Inspiring Generations: America’s 250 Years of Music and Military Service.”
The project honors the historic role of military bands in American civic life while inspiring musicians, scholars, service members, and community members.
Combining scholarship, performance, hands-on learning, and community engagement, the initiative is anchored by a full public concert by the Marine Band 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 2, in the Jackson Family Auditorium of Holloway Hall. A post-concert Q&A and dessert reception follow.
Additional public components include a lecture by historian David Suisman, author of Instrument of War: Music and the Making of America’s Soldiers, 7 p.m. Thursday, October 1, at the Herman van Apeldoorn Film Center, Fulton Hall 111.
The initiative also includes a masterclass for SU band members with Marine Band Director Lt. Col. Ryan Nowlin.
